Data Governance Manager

Strategic Staffing Solutions (S3) has an opening! Data Governance Manager Detroit, MI (Hybrid/Onsite Tues-Thurs) W2 contract role 12 months with potential for contract-to-hire Competitive salary with benefits

As we continue expanding the Digital Transformation organizational roles, we're looking to bring on a Data Governance Manager who can help us to implement the Data Governance program. This role will be responsible for implementing and evolving the enterprise governance framework to ensure data is trusted, secure, compliant, and effectively used across business units.

Key Accountabilities:

• Maintain and evolve the enterprise-wide data governance framework, ensuring policies, standards, and processes are current, consistent, and aligned with organizational strategy.
• Manage steward enterprise data definitions, metadata standards, and quality expectations.
• Ensure consistent adoption of governance practices across all business units, domains, and data stewardship teams.
• Work closely with spoke-level governance leads to align on data definitions, resolve discrepancies, and drive enterprise-wide standardization.
• Provide definitive guidance on governance practices, serving as the central authority for interpreting policies, processes, and standards.
• Support stakeholders in applying governance best practices to enable trusted, high-quality, well‑managed data.
• Establish enterprise data quality metrics, thresholds, and monitoring expectations.
• Oversee issue management processes, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis.
• Facilitate governance councils, working groups, and cross-functional forums to drive alignment and decision-making.
• Educate and enable stakeholders on governance roles, responsibilities, and processes.
• Partner with IT stakeholders to ensure governance tools (e.g., data catalog, metadata management, lineage) support enterprise standards and are used consistently across spokes.
• Maintain governance documentation repositories and ensure accessibility and version control.
• Ensure governance practices support regulatory, privacy, and compliance requirements.
• Identify governance risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in information management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred but not required)
• 5–8 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata management, or related disciplines
• Experience working within a hub‑and‑spoke governance model or other federated data management structures
• Hands-on experience with enterprise data governance tools (e.g., Azure Purview Collibra, Alation or Similar)
• Familiarity with data privacy and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX)
• Strong understanding of data architecture concepts, including lineage, metadata, master data, and reference data
• Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels without direct authority
• Experience facilitating governance councils, working groups, or cross‑functional decision-making forums
